This was an interesting project. The client's home was an existing farmhouse originally built in the 1870's making it one of the oldest homes in Contra Costa County. Another addition was subsequently added around 1906. We were requested to add the next addition comprising of a new state of the art Kitchen and utility room plus a Family Room. A portion of the new work included demolishing a portion of the existing kitchen with a basement root cellar! The original windows of the home are handmade glass set in wood frames. We included new energy efficient glazing with divided panes to match the original as close as possible. As the home was opened up during construction it was fascinating to see the original structure-- almost like a time capsule. In the end, this lovely home contains construction from three eras-- 1800's, 1900's and early 2000's!
